PACMMA GOES 2-0 AT THE BRAWL AT THE HALL WITH IMPRESSIVE VICTORIES!
MARCH 31st, 2011

Last Saturday, MMA returned to Joliet, IL as Supreme Promotions presented "The Brawl at the Hall" at the IBEW 176 Union Hall. That venue has hosted fights from PACMMA's Elvin Leon Brito, Chris Sizemore, Joe Voitik, and others, but this was the first time  Supreme Promotions has hosted a night of fights there.

Representing PACMMA, Dan Melland and Mike Hilbert made their MMA debut, and did not fail to disappoint! Melland, who has a few boxing matches under his belt, was eager to finally step in the cage. Only 18 years old, Dan Melland is the youngest person to ever fight for PACMMA. His opponent that night was a familiar foe.

Dan was matched up against Corey Foreshaw from Team No Comment in a flyweight bout. Foreshaw and Melland had met in a boxing match previously, which ended in a controversial split decision win for Foreshaw. Dan was eager to avenge the loss, this time in the cage. With the boxing match being a three round war, the MMA fight was short and one sided. Early in the fight, Foreshaw attacked with a kick and Dan retaliated with a flurry which stunned Foreshaw, forcing him to clinch. After a failed guillotine attempt from Foreshaw, Dan responded with a guillotine of his own, forcing Foreshaw to tap at the 1:46 mark of the first round.

Later in the evening, PACMMA's second fighter stepped in the cage. Mike "The Last Action Hero" Hilbert was making his debut as well, but in the Lightweight division. He would be facing Brian Akins from Team No Ego. Akins, a former high school wrestler, also was making his MMA debut. Hilbert, without any previous fighting experience or background, was faced with a formidable challenge in Akins. The fight, a back and forth battle, had a good mixture of grappling and striking. Mike was able to edge Akins both on the feet and on the ground. The three round battle went to the judges with scores of 30-27, 29-28, and 29-28, all in favor of Hilbert. Named "Fight of the Night", both competitors showed their worth and a lot of potential for the future.

With both wins in their MMA debut, Dan and Mike brought their records to 1-0 and look to get back in the cage soon to improve that record. Both me represented PACMMA impressively and will be a mainstay for the PACMMA fight team for a long time. These two athletes have continued PACMMA's unbeaten streak since the gym opened. Be sure to check in when you will see more PACMMA fighters in the cage.

CONGRATS DAN AND MIKE! KEEP IT UP!

"A BOXING CLINIC!" OMAR DIAZ WINNER BY 2ND ROUND TKO!
FEBRUARY 27th, 2011

Last Thursday night, Omar Diaz entered the cage at Joe's Bar on Weed St. in Chicago for the first time in over a year. Months removed from a serious shoulder surgery, Omar looked to bounce back into the winners circle. Returning to the venue where he last exited the cage, Omar made his comeback with style! Coming off a first round TKO in boxing a few weeks earlier, Omar rode that momentum into his return to MMA.

The opponent chosen for Omar was Ken "Lil Monster" Hanson from Team Kaotic Punishment in Dekalb and the bout contested in the Lightweight Division (155lbs). Hanson had fought a number of times more than Omar but it looks at if Omar was the more experienced fighter.

The fight was definitely one that pleased the crowd, the majority being fans of Omar and PACMMA. In the first round, Omar fought off a guillotine attempt and was able to use knees from the thai clinch coupled with his boxing to dominate the round. That guillotine attempt was the only offense Hanson would experience in the fight. When the second round began, Omar had found his range and his rhythm in the stand up. Omar battered and bloodied Hanson with power punches and huge knees, forcing the referee to stop the bout at the 1:14 mark of the second round.

Following the fight, the ring announcer had called Omar's performance "A BOXING CLINIC" and also praised Hanson's toughness. Omar has a lot of momentum behind him right now as he continues to improve his skill set and put on exciting bouts. You can see Omar back in the cage on March 26th in Joliet.

GREAT JOB OMAR!

"EL BANDIDO" CONTINUES SUCCESS, WINS PUERTO RICO KICKBOXING TITLE!
FEBRUARY 27th, 2011

Known as an excellent boxer and MMA fighter, "El Bandido" Elvin Leon Brito has expanded his fight repertoire for his first ever kickboxing match. It was no small chance, but Elvin was definitely up to the challenge. The event, promoted by PRAMMA & Latino Soldiers Inc, was held at the Hilton Hotel in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Elvin fought against Kevin "The Jet" Molina in the main event for the middleweight championship.

Elvin, represented Puerto Rico in his bout against New Jersey's Kevin Molina. Molina is a multiple time kickboxing and muay thai champion and runs his own training academy with his father. With years of competing in taekwondo, kickboxing and muay thai competitions, Molina had the experience edge over Elvin. However, that proved not to be a factor as Elvin was able to enforce his dominance of the kickboxer. Using his knowledge of striking from his years of boxing and MMA, Elvin pushed Molina to the limit and defeated him via unanimous decision.

Elvin continues his success while living in his native Maunabo, Puerto Rico. We count the days until Elvin returns to us and brings PACMMA to the next level! Elvin has scheduled another kickboxing bout in 6 weeks.

CONGRATS ELVIN!

"EL BANDIDO" IS A TRUE WARRIOR AND FIRST-CLASS REPRESENTATIVE!
JANUARY 26th, 2011

The most successful fighter in PACMMA history, "El Bandido" Elvin Leon Brito has reached many goals in his fighting career. Starting as a pure boxer, "El Bandido" has transformed himself into a true mixed martial artist. His boxing days brought him quick, powerful hands as well as perfect technique but that's not all in his arsenal. Elvin has added brutal Ground n Pound (2 pro fights ending by TKO), advanced jiu jitsu (2 pro fights ending by submission), great sprawl n brawl, and WORLD CLASS cardio to his attributes. He is evolving his game even more by competing in a professional kickboxing match this February.

Elvin's early career goals had him competing locally, winning many amateur championships, most notably the CutThroat MMA Lightweight Title. He was also very devoted to the PACMMA fight team, teaching multiple classes a week and helping each fighter improve individually. Elvin devoted numerous hours for each fighter to prepare them for upcoming fights. No value can be place on how much Elvin's involvement and sacrifice brought PACMMA and it's fighters to where it is today.

Elvin had developed himself not only into a top fighter but also into incredible teacher and leader. After achieving a lot of success with PACMMA, "El Bandido" received a calling elsewhere, one he could not refuse.

A native of Maunabo, Puerto Rico, Elvin vowed to never forget his roots and returned to his home island and continue his MMA career there. In Puerto Rico, MMA is beginning to become as popular as it is in the states. A big part of that can be contributed to Elvin. When Elvin went back to Maunabo, he helped turn the local gym into a Puerto Rican MMA powerhouse. Maunabo MMA is home to many fighters. The training camps for PACMMA fighters Joe Voitik and Chris Sizemore were also held at Maunabo MMA with Elvin as the head trainer.

While Elvin gained a lot of his notoriety from the success of Maunabo MMA, his individual accomplishments overshadow what he has accomplished as a coach. Elvin competed in the largest event in the history of MMA in Puerto Rico, defeating fellow Puerto Rican, Jorge Ramos, in the first round. Elvin also tried out for the UFC's reality show, The Ultimate Fighter. Elvin passed the physical tryouts and was flown to Vegas, however was not chosen to enter the house.
VIEW ELVIN'S TUF TRYOUT VIDEO HERE

After proving himself to be a skill level higher than the native fighters, promoters of Top Combat Championships needed to fly fighters in from the states to challenge Elvin. He first faced Greg Jackson fighter, Richard Chavez and defeated him by TKO in the second round. They then flew in Pat McGreal from the Bombsquad in New York, home to UFC fighter Jon Jones. Elvin defeated him in the third round by submission. "El Bandido" is the only native Puerto Rican to consistently beat the fighters from the states. He looks to capture the Top Combat Lightweight Championship later this year.

With a 4-0 professional record, Elvin was recently named the number 2 fighter in Puerto Rico by PrimeraHora, a top Puerto Rican publication. The sky is the limit for Elvin's potential and what the future brings.

Without a doubt, PACMMA would not be what it is today without Elvin's contributions. While he is in Puerto Rico, working on other goals, Elvin always remembers that he is a member of PACMMA for life. Although he has been offered tons of opportunities, he never forgets where he came from, whether at Maunabo MMA or PACMMA. He never complains, never made excuses, and always made due with what he had to work with. He has transformed himself into a world class fighter, bringing many of his friends and family along the way. He is as loyal and large a part of PACMMA as there is. We wish Elvin the best of luck and can't wait til he comes back to rejoin his PACMMA family.

THANKS FOR EVERYTHING ELVIN! WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU!

PACMMA FIGHTERS OMAR DIAZ AND DAN MELLAND COMPETE AT CHICAGO SMOKER
JANUARY 16th, 2011

This past Saturday Night, Team No Comment out of Chicago, IL held its inaugural Fundraiser Smoker. The night would feature a mix of boxing, muay thai, and grappling matches. Omar Diaz, (1-1 mma record), and Dan Melland, (1-0 boxing record), represented PACMMA in boxing matches at the event.

Dan Melland faced off against Corey Foreshaw, an experienced MMA fighter from No Comment. Knowing that Foreshaw would have the obvious advantage fighting in his home gym, Dan Melland needed to dominate the fight to come away with a victory. The two were very evenly matched. Dan started the fight off hot, winning the 1st round without a doubt. The 2nd round was contested closely and the 3rd round ended up being Foreshaw's. When the fight went to the judges, the outcome was a split decision in the favor of Corey Foreshaw. Although it's very hard to come away with a decision in someone's hometown, Dan made no excuses for the loss, stating that he'd work twice as hard for his next match up.

Omar Diaz also squared off against a fighter from No Comment. After seeing his teammate Dan Melland lose a split decision to a No Comment fighter, Omar knew he'd have to win this fight decisively. Omar definitely carried out his intentions, stopping his opponent by TKO in the first round. The No Comment fighter came out swinging but once Omar got into his rhythm and figured out he was the better boxer, he controlled the fight. Relying heavily on body shots, Omar was able to knock his opponent down three times before the end of the bout was called. The 1st round victory was a good warm up for him as he prepares to get back in the cage on February 24th at Joe's Bar on Weed St.

Overall Omar and Dan represented PACMMA well and continue to put on exciting fights.

CONGRATULATIONS GUYS!

"SWAMP THING" SHINES IN MAIN EVENT, TKO WIN IN 2ND ROUND! EXCLUSIVE VIDEO
JANUARY 12th, 2011

Last Friday at the Double Tree Hotel in Oak Brook, IL, CutThroat MMA put on a show including 10 fights. The main event of the evening featured PACMMA's own, Samie "Swamp Thing" Sabbah against Pete "Bear" Becker in an epic heavyweight match up. Samie, coming off a big win last October, had built up a lot of momentum but appeared to be the underdog against Becker who is a 9 time All American wrestler and owner of the Olympian Training Center.

Samie's family, friends, and his PACMMA family packed the house in support of the "Swamp Thing." Samie did not disappoint his fans as he handily defeated Becker. The fight saw Samie stuff all of Becker's takedown attempts and put the All American wrestler away with a barrage of punches, forcing the referee to stop the fight at the beginning of the 2nd round.

Samie's performance Friday night impressed a lot of people as well as promoters. He is rapidly moving up the ladder and hopes to be in line to win a championship in the near future. Samie is looking to keep busy and get back into the cage within the next few months. Make sure you stay tuned to find out when you can see Samie in action!

CONGRATULATIONS SAMIE! WE KNEW YOU COULD DO IT!!!

PACMMA CELEBRATES THE ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF BECOMING TEAM CHAMPIONS!!!
DECEMBER 12th, 2010

Members of PACMMA, old and new, got together this past Friday to celebrate the one year anniversary of PACMMA winning the 2009 Team Challenge Tournament. December 10th, 2009 is a night those involved with PACMMA will never forget. One year removed, our staff believed that night is worthy of mentioning on this website. Please join us in revisiting these important events in our history.

Let's flashback to October of 2009, when PACMMA entered into the FCE 2009 Team Challenge. The FCE promotion has had a team tournament annually but this was PACMMA's first year participating. The tournament would pit two gyms against each other. Each gym would have 5 fighters, one for every weight class from 135-185. The team that won at least 3 out of the 5 match ups would be declared the winner and move on to the next round. The event was FCE 26: No Mercy 2009 from Cicero Stadium on the outside of Chicago. The first round of the team tournament pitted PACMMA vs. Team Elite, a tough team of veteran fighters from Ohio.

PACMMA was able to best Team Elite in impressive fashion, winning four out of the five bouts. The only loss came in a controversial split decision. There was extra significance to the fights that night due to the fact that marked the last amateur fights for both "El Bandido" Elvin Leon Brito and Joe "Jitsu" Voitik. In their bouts before becoming professional, both Joe and Elvin won by choke in dominating manner. With four out of 5 victories, PACMMA advanced into the finals of the team tournament.

Fast forward to December 10th, 2009 at Joe's Bar on Weed St. in downtown Chicago. The event was FCE 28: Final Conflict 2009 and featured PACMMA against Team No Comment for the 2009 Team Challenge Championship. Also on the fight card was PACMMA's Luke "Buzzy" Austin vs. Mickey Martin in a number one contender match for the FCE Middleweight Title. Chicago's Team No Comment, the 2007 Team Challenge Champions, benefited from having a hometown crowd in attendance. With Joe Voitik and Elvin Leon Brito's professional careers underway, they were absent from the line up. The 135lbs spot would be forfeited and Omar Diaz filled Elvin's spot with only 2 days notice. This put No Comment at a 1-0 advantage and the entire deck stacked against PACMMA.

Read MMA RECAP's full coverage of the event by clicking here

Quick Results (PACMMA FIGHTERS IN RED)
135lbs: Abel Alverado wins by Forfeit (No Comment Leads 1-0)
145lbs: Johnny Torres defeats Pedro Velasco by KO (head kick) 2:16 round 1 (Tied 1-1)

170lbs: Chris Sizemore defeats Percy Hicks by KO (flying knee) 1:35 round 1 (Tied 2-2)
185lbs: Danny Morales defeats Quincy Smith by TKO :15 round 2
PACMMA WINS 2009 TEAM CHALLENGE 3-2!!!
185lbs: Luke Austin defeats Mickey Martin by guillotine choke :41 of round 1
(Luke Austin earns Middleweight Title Shot)

AFTERMATH: When PACMMA won the FCE 2009 Team Challenge Championship, it brought a lot of long over due recognition to the team. Class attendance increased dramatically following that night. The growth of the gym and the growing success of the team enabled PACMMA to move into their very own brand new training facility last August. The two knockouts during the final of the team tournament, Chris Sizemore's flying knee (picture left) and Johnny Torres' head kicks (pictured center), came in 1st and 2nd place for the FCE KO of the Year Award. Luke Austin (pictured right) went on to win the FCE Middleweight Title a few months following that night. Since the start of the team tournament, PACMMA has amassed an overall team record of 19-5, an incredible feat.

While PACMMA saw the peak of its' success the night they became Team Champions, it is only a small preview of what is in store for the future. Our team is growing daily, our fighters are growing daily, and our successes are growing daily. A lot of our success now can be attributed to the tournament where the individual fighters of PACMMA fought not for themselves but for each other as well as every member PACMMA family. As 2010 comes to an end, 2011 is on the horizon and promises to be the greatest year in PACMMA history. Big things are coming in the new year and we are thankful for each and every person who contributes to our success. Now is a perfect time to join us in our journey and become a member of our family.

THANK YOU FOR RELIVING THIS UNFORGETTABLE NIGHT WITH US!

"TRIGGER MAN" JOHNNY TORRES BACK IN ACTION! FIGHTS THIS SATURDAY IN JOLIET!
DECEMBER 6th, 2010

This Saturday, December 11th, Johnny Torres gets back in the cage looking to improve his record to 5-1. He will be fighting for the promotion, Extreme Challenge.

The venue Johnny is competing at has a lot of significance to it. It is at the 176 Banquet Hall in Joliet, IL. Not only is the venue only minutes away from Johnny's hometown of Plainfield, it is literally across the street from PACMMA. The 176 Banquet Hall is also where PACMMA saw much of its' earlier success with the likes of Elvin Leon Brito, Angelo Gervasio, Chris Sizemore, Joe Voitik, and Luke Austin winning championships and dominating their competition for years.

Johnny, only 5 weeks removed from his TKO victory over Victor Johnson, is anxious to fight in front of his family and friends so close to his home. This bout will be contested at 155lbs, a weight division above his normal featherweight class. His opposition is Tyler Aker, a scrappy 6' tall fighter from Indiana.

Fights start at 8pm and tickets are only $20!

PACMMA GOES 2-0 AT FCE: NO MERCY 2010! JOHNNY TORRES AND SAMIE SABBAH BOTH WINNERS BY TKO
NOVEMBER 8th, 2010

In what turned out to be a night of few surprises, Johnny Torres and Samie Sabbah represented PACMMA at the Cicero Stadium on October 30th. This marked the first night PACMMA has competed in MMA since opening up the new location. The way the night went, it was like PACMMA never left as they stole the show like old times.

Samie, aka "The Swamp Thing", started the night off for PACMMA when he took on 6-4, 280lbs Ole Nickels. Samie knew he had a distinct size disadvantage but showed no fear going into the cage for the first time. The fight went exactly as planned for Samie. In the 2 minutes that the fight lasted, Samie showed dominance in the every aspect of the sport. He landed hard punches standing, slammed Ole twice, and wound up in mount twice, forcing Ole's corner to throw in the towel on the last occasion. Samie got his first taste of MMA and loved every second of his victory. As a 1-0 fighter, he's already looking to step back in the cage within the next few months and is already focusing on harder competition.

Building off of Samie's victory, Johnny Torres stepped into the cage just two fights later. His opponent was Victor Johnson out of Combat Zone. Johnson, a veteran fighter with over 15 fights, proved to be a worthy opponent for Torres, in only his 5th fight. Johnny had no worries over Johnson's experience and knew that he would have the superior technique and conditioning. The fight had a little bit of everything in it. The fight saw the two trading blows, working for take downs, submission attempts (OMO!), and great scrambles. True to his name "Trigger Man", Johnny rocked Victor with some crisp counter striking as well as a beautiful head kick. Then in the middle of round number 3, Johnny further showed his dominance as he was able to get mount and at the 1:07 mark, forced the referee to stop the fight and declare Johnny winner by TKO. This has moved Johnny's record to 4-1 with 4 KO's/TKO's. Johnny is now focusing on getting some gold around his waist and will be ready when the call comes.

CONGRATS JOHNNY AND SAMIE! TWO DOMINANT FIGHTS, PAC STYLE!

The fight will be contested at 145lbs. Both fighters were nominated for the FCE knockout of the year award, with Johnny finishing second in the voting!

Samie "Swamp Thing" Sabbah also will be stepping into the cage that night again fellow 0-0 fighter, Ole Nickels out of POW MMA. DAN MELLAND VICTORIOUS IN HIS BOXING DEBUT! FIRST ROUND TKO!
OCTOBER 3rd, 2010

PACMMA's team of fighters traveled out to KA Fitness in Chicago to support Dan Melland in his first boxing match. In the bout, Danny was able to win the match with a TKO in the first round. Danny used great technique and remained calm despite being in his first ever match. This is the first match PACMMA has had since the opening of the new gym. Danny definitely kicked things off in the right direction. GREAT JOB DAN!

Johnny Torres and Joe Voitik also competed against each other in an exhibition boxing match. They both showed why PACMMA is home to some great strikers, in a back and forth technical battle, winning fight of the night honors. The bout ended in a draw. But PACMMA definitely stole the show for the evening!

CONGRATS TO DAN AND ALL OF PACMMA! KEEP ON WINNING!

GRAND OPENING AT PACMMA WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!
SEPTEMBER 26th, 2010

On Saturday, September 25th, PACMMA had its grand opening at the brand new location in Joliet. For 6 hours, the facility was filled with people, enjoying the great food and taking advantage of the gym space. Kids had to the opportunity to play games as well as roll around. Members of various different gym came out to grapple and spar with some new faces. Fights from many PACMMA fighters as well as a collection of UFC DVDs were displayed on a large projector screen.

MARCH 18th, 2010

For his first professional fight, Joe "Jitsu" Voitik traveled to Puerto Rico. His second pro fight will be much closer to home, the Chicagoland area. While the exact location is still being speculated, a contract has been signed, outlining the date and opponent; May 22nd, Christian Reynoso. Reynoso specializes in BJJ and fights out of Valko BJJ Academy in Chicago. As the reigning FCE featherweight champion, Reynoso made a big impact on the amateur level. But this isn't the amateurs anymore. Voitik expects to welcome Reynoso to the professional leagues with a loss and a whole lot of pain. On May 22nd, Joe Voitik will step into the cage at the highest level of skill and conditioning he has ever been, with intentions of making his first pro fight in the states a successful one.

FCE MIDDLEWEIGHT UNIFICATION BOUT, LUKE AUSTIN LOOKS TO SOLIDIFY HIS STATUS!
MARCH 18th, 2010

After Luke "Buzzy" Austin won the FightCard Entertainment Middleweight crown, a title unification bout was immediately desired by the fans. Jeremy Godina had won the FCE belt last October and was set to defend it against "Buzzy" a month ago. Godina was unable to compete and Luke was left to fight for the belt against a different opponent. A fight between the two has now been scheduled for April 10th at FCE 33: Warzone in Melrose Park. Claims have been made by Godina that Luke is not the true champion but Luke is preparing to prove that he is the best Middleweight fighter in the FightCard Entertainment promotion.

MARCH 7th, 2010

In front of his family and friends in the Puerto Rican capitol city, San Juan, "El Bandido" Elvin Leon Brito displayed his skills and dominance. Competing at the Top Combat Championships, Elvin was able to defeat his opponent, Ricardo Chavez, by TKO at the 3:04 mark in the 2nd round. Chavez, fighting out of Greg Jackson's Submission Fighting, was a jiu jitsu ace. The fight saw many transitions and technical ground fighting but in the middle of the second round Elvin gained the upper hand and pounded out his opponent, forcing the referee to stop the match. The win marks Elvin third straight win on the professional level sitting with a perfect 3-0 record.

NOT ONE, BUT TWO CANDIDATES FOR KO OF THE YEAR!!!
MARCH 2nd, 2010

PACMMA stole the show at Final Conflict, when the team captured the 2009 FCE team championship. It wasn't only the fact that they won the tournament, but also how they did it. On that night, two of our fighters finished their opponents with highlight reel knockouts. Johnny Torres (on the left) knocked out Pedro Velasco with a textbook left head kick. Chris Sizemore (right) put Percy Hicks to sleep with a flying knee.

These two knockouts earned the fighters 2 spots out of the 8 as candidates for FightCard Entertainment's knockout of the year award. Too bad only one can be the winner because they are definitely the two best knockouts on the list!

KEEP KNOCKING EM' OUT GUYS!!!
